When Faith Is Questioned · Question 20

What If I Have Doubts—or I’m Not Ready to Believe?

“I am interested, but I still have questions. Do I have to force myself to believe?”

Why This Question Matters

Not every questioning person is hostile to faith. You may be curious, cautious, disappointed, unconvinced, or afraid of what believing would require. Honest uncertainty is different from pretending certainty.

A Simple Answer

You do not need to fake faith or resolve every question before coming to Jesus. He welcomes honest questions and calls you to turn from sin and trust Him—the Savior who died for our sins and rose again. This response matters now: none of us is promised tomorrow, and Scripture teaches that death is followed by judgment. Those who trust Christ receive forgiveness and eternal life, beginning now and continuing with Him beyond death. Keep seeking honestly, but do not assume you will always have another opportunity to respond.

The Truth To Remember

You can bring your questions to Jesus today; you do not have to wait for perfect certainty.

Rooted In Scripture

Mark 9:24 — A father brings both belief and unbelief honestly to Jesus.

Hebrews 9:27–28 — Death is followed by judgment; Christ was offered to bear sins and will return to save His people.

John 5:24 — Jesus promises eternal life to those who hear His word and believe the Father who sent Him.

2 Corinthians 6:1–2 — Paul urges his readers to receive God’s grace and respond to salvation now.

Going A Little Deeper

Faith is more than deciding that Christianity is probably true; it is entrusting yourself to Jesus. Salvation is God’s gift, received by grace through faith, rather than earned through goodness, church attendance, or saying the right words (Ephesians 2:8–9). Turning to Him means acknowledging your sin, receiving His forgiveness, and following Him as Lord. You may still have questions as you learn to walk with Him.

Christianity speaks seriously about death because our relationship with God has eternal significance. We cannot schedule the end of our lives. Its invitation is therefore both gracious and urgent: reconciliation with God, life with Him now, and the hope of being with Christ in heaven after death and sharing His resurrection life. If you recognize that Jesus is true and trustworthy, respond today.

Consider This

1. What unresolved question is keeping you from trusting Jesus, and whom could you ask to explore it with you?

2. Are you waiting for reasonable confidence—or for perfect certainty before responding to what you already understand?

3. Since tomorrow is not promised, what would it mean to turn toward Christ today rather than assume you can decide later?

A Simple Invitation

If you are ready, tell Jesus honestly: “I have sinned and need Your mercy. I believe You died for my sins and rose again. Forgive me, and help me trust and follow You.” These words are not a formula; salvation rests in Christ. If you are still unsure, bring Him your questions and speak with a trusted Christian today.
